For the past 40 years, a cooperative vegetable garden for the staff has been closed to the public. Filoli Estate & Gardens is just 25 miles south of San Francisco. The Filoli estate is surrounded by nearly 700 acres of parkland and 16 beautifully landscaped gardens. Guided and self-guided tours are offered six days a week.

My favorite thing about visiting in summer is the rose garden! There are bright and blooming tulips and daffodils throughout the entire property, the incredible cherry blossom trees are filled with pink blossoms, and there are food trucks parked in the Meadow ready to serve you. The sunken garden is the first of four main rooms; the rectangular pool at its center that houses hardy and tropical water lilies is flanked by twin panels of lawn and two olive trees, within the hedge of clipped Japanese yew.
